Sunday Scriptures — Denied

Isaiah 40By Sandy Kirby Quandt

The other day, Pilot and I had an unexpected surprise while eating out.

After Pilot looked at the bill and gave the waiter his credit card, the waiter returned and whispered, “Sir, your card has been denied.”

What?

It took a minute for that to sink in. After the waiter repeated himself, he placed the check with our credit card on the table in its padded case.  “I’ll give you a few moments, and return for this.”

Pilot paid with cash, but we were bewildered. This was not something that ever happened to us before.

Wanting to make sure there was indeed a problem with our card and not something wrong with the restaurant’s machine, Pilot went straight way to a store…where the card was… denied.

Once in the car, Pilot called the credit card company. Seems someone had used our card at a hotel in Michigan. Michigan? We’ve never even been in Michigan.

Fortunately, the credit card company sensed fraud, and froze our card.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

As I considered this situation, another situation came to mind. The Day of Judgment.

Jesus said that not everyone who calls him Lord will enter the kingdom of heaven. They will be denied. Shut out. Refused. Their credit card won’t work.

What a surprise that’s gonna’ be.

Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. No one will be able to live eternally in heaven unless they have professed Christ as their Savior, and lived their life according to God’s will.

Fortunately, the problem with our credit card was caught early and easily fixed.

It won’t be so easy for those who kid themselves about their relationship with Jesus.

“Knowing the correct password—saying ‘Master, Master,’ for instance—isn’t going to get you anywhere with me. What is required is serious obedience—doing what my Father wills. I can see it now—at the Final Judgment thousands strutting up to me and saying, ‘Master, we preached the Message, we bashed the demons, our God-sponsored projects had everyone talking.’ And do you know what I am going to say? ‘You missed the boat. All you did was use me to make yourselves important. You don’t impress me one bit. You’re out of here.’  Matthew 7:21-23 (MSG)

I wish you well,

Sandy

Right on again, Sandy. Read your message to Selmer while we were eating breakfast this morning and it touched our spirits – both references. Glad you got your credit card puzzle solved and glad the company was able to block it. It would be nice if the company would let us know when they uncover a problem, immediately. Most of us have texting, e-mails, mobile phones, etc. so would be a simple procedure. If it happens to us, we probably couldn’t muste enough cash to pay – don’t carry cash usually. Guess Selmer would leave me at the restaurant for… Read more »
