Return to Joy-Book Review

by Sandy Kirby Quandt

Bev DeSalvo, author of Return to Joy,  believes “We all have broken places, and we all have a compelling desire within our hearts for healing and wholeness, but it takes incredible courage to begin walking the broken road to intimacy … with God and others.”

As Bev relates her story of growing up with a father who had borderline personality disorder which caused long-term patterns of turbulent emotions, and a mother with erratic behavior she describes her journey of finding rest in the Shelter of the Most High.

Each chapter contains scripture and questions to guide the reader to seriously consider and honestly answer over a five-day span. Bev designed these questions to show God is not passively, powerlessly standing by when we endure trials and heartache. No. He is waging war against the forces of evil on our behalf during those times.

Return to Joy contains a facilitator’s guide at the back of the book for small group use.

Whether we have suffered the type of abuse and neglect Bev did or not, Return to Joy is worth the read. There is wisdom within its pages for each of us.
