Pause for Poetry — Listen

pauseby Sandy Kirby Quandt

Welcome to Pause for Poetry featuring a poem written by my writer-friend, Shirley Specht Johnson.

Listen
by Shirley Specht Johnson

Listen to the morning as you start your day.

Listen to your children as they laugh and play.

Listen to your little one say his ABC’s.

Listen to the wind as it whispers through the trees.

Listen to the birds sing more than just a tweet.

Listen to the leaves as they crunch beneath your feet.

Listen to great grandma tell her story one more time.

Listen to your granddaughter sing yet another rhyme.

Listen to your teenager share all her fears and joy.

Listen to the quiet as you rock your baby boy.

Listen to the raindrops.

Listen to the snow.

Listen to the moments,

Cherish them so.

Shhh…Listen

Shirley….I especially like this poem because I feel that I and many others miss enjoying so many of these things because we are in a hurry. I can’t go back and enjoy the ones I missed, but I will be on the lookout for the ones I still can and also for new ones. I am glad that God brought us together since we are fellow poets. Have a blessed week ahead. Love….Fran
