Pause For Poetry — In The Shadows

Welcome to Pause for Poetry featuring a poem written by my writer-friend, Shirley Specht Johnson.

In The Shadows

by Shirley Specht Johnson

In the shadows
of a choir’s hymns
freedom’s stories
embrace the soul.

In the shadows
of the voices heard
freedom’s words
rest upon a scroll.

In the shadows
of the bookshelves
containing strength and will,
freedom flowed quite diligently
through a writer’s quill.

In the shadows
of the sunshine,
the choices and the grace,
freedom walked with heroes
in a most uncommon place.

In the shadows
of the smiles
and the footsteps upon the shore,
freedom filled hearts with dreams,
freedom chose to soar.
