Call Anytime

Bing photosIn the olden days of telephones…like in the 50s, 60s, 70s, 80s…when there were few cell phones in anyone’s hand, land line phones charged higher rates during peak hours. You were charged higher interstate rates, long distance, and forget overseas rates. Yes. I know. Sounds crazy, but it was true. A local call was about all your dime would get you. And of course, there was also the collect call.

With a land line phone, you didn’t have to worry about running out of minutes on your plan, bing photosyou just had to worry about the extra cost of all those run-up minutes. I remember going to a week of summer church camp one year, where I was lectured by the sister of a boy who used to call me from upper Maryland, to my home near Washington, DC. Appears those calls were racking up quite the phone bill. It wasn’t my fault he called me so often.

Thankfully, God doesn’t work on a pay-per-minute plan. He doesn’t have special weekend rates, or an exclusive family calling circle. There is no need to be concerned with keeping the phone battery charged, or that he won’t pick up when our number flashes across the caller ID. We don’t have to fret that we’ll call after he’s already gone to bed. And he most assuredly will not put us on hold, when a seemingly, more important, caller buzzes in.

bing photosGod’s always available. We can talk with him anytime. We’ll never run out of minutes in any given month, so we don’t have to worry about stretching out the times between our calls to him. And we definitely don’t have to schedule our call to coincide with the lowest rate, or worry about astronomical intergalactic phone charges.

Thanks be to God, we’ve been given a free calling card, through Jesus Christ, his son.

Why not give him a call? He’s waiting to hear from you.

What are your thoughts on the subject?

I call to you in times of trouble, because you will answer me. Psalm 86:7 (NCV)

I wish you well.
