Acquitted

BingPerhaps you heard. An innocent man was unjustly sentenced for murder, and sent to prison for a crime he didn’t commit. For over 25 years. It seems the prosecutor of the murder case withheld vital pieces of evidence, that would have cleared the condemned man. But new DNA evidence proved the incarcerated man was not guilty. As a result, he was acquitted. Set free. Released from prison.

When I considered this travesty of justice, I thought about the prosecutor who lies, withholds Bingevidence, and falsely accuses us today. Satan. The father of lies. Chief liar. In whom there is no truth. His goal is to sentence all of us to prison. He wants to shackle us with fear. Keep us from reaching our God-given potential. Beat us down with the guilt of our sins.

There’s evidence Satan wants to withhold. The evidence of a Risen Savior. Evidence of the fact our debt has been paid. The truth that those of us who claim Jesus as our Savior and LORD, no longer stand condemned before the Great Judge, God. Satan wants to sentence the world to death.

BingWe’ve all been wounded in one way or another. We’ve all been bruised and beat up by the consequences of life. Many of us walk around, imprisoned by our own chains. Or chains forced on us by others. We allow the accuser to imprison us. We refuse to accept the amazing truth. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins.

We need to seek the truth. Accept Jesus’ gift. His grace. His sacrifice. Step out of our man-made prison, and into life in him.

God sent his son into this world to save us. To restore us. To set us free from the accuser.

God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it.  And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. John 3:17-18 MSG

I wish you well.

Worldly law is less about justice, and far more about keeping unjust social systems in place, and punishing the poor who fight back in some way, whilst protecting and even rewarding the rich and powerful who also break the law and often prosper corruptly, but do so with teams of savvy well paid lawyers. Money buys you justice of a kind, but it is not true justice. Jesus lifts up those who have been crushed by this deeply unjust and deeply unfair world, and punishes those who ruthlessly exploit others. But, and here’s where Jesus is the friend of us… Read more »
